Carner & Gregor
In the beginning, Sam and Derek were babies, so they didn’t really know each other. Fast forward a bit: Sam and Derek’s musical UNLOCK’D was produced Off-Broadway at the Duke Theatre, having won a Richard Rodgers Award and “Best in the Fest” at NYMF. Back up: They met at the NYU Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program. Back up a little further. Oops, too far: They’re babies again. Moving forward…yes…here we are: as early as 2014, their work had been performed in concert by much of the cast of HAIR and by West End singers in London. Their musical ISLAND SONG had played at the Bloomington Playwrights Project, having had workshops around the world (including in Japanese). Sam had taught several courses at Yale and NYU, and Derek had founded the rock band M-LAB for which he played keyboard and wore eyeliner. Fast forward some more. Teaching. Glamor. MAC Nominations. Glamor. Shows. More shows. Bang! So sad. The collision of the Andromeda Galaxy with the Milky Way in 3,000,000,000 AD ended the runs of nearly all of their shows, except that one that was on tour.
