Meet the Bloggers: Veronica Aviles

The Green Room is so excited to introduce you to the newest bloggers who are joining us this summer! For the rest of the week, you can get to know them through the latest installments of Meet the Bloggers series.

Name: Veronica Aviles

What do you do outside of blogging? I recently graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice and Forensic Science, so I’m doing the whole job search thing right now. Other than that, I’m probably watching Netflix or finding crafts to do.

Favorite musical: I’m going to have to say Rent. When I first saw it as a teenager, it was so refreshing to me. Every character and every song had me hooked. Every time I see it, I always enjoy it in different ways. I not only learned about life and love but also learned so much about musical theatre. It opened the contemporary musical world for me, leading me to discover other musicals I love, such as Next to Normal and Spring Awakening. Next to Normal is a favorite that I have not seen on stage, but I’m obsessed with the cast recording.

What are you interested in blogging about this summer? Though I don’t have experience in musical theatre, I hope to share my love and appreciation of it. I hope to explore topics such as representation and visibility in musical theatre, connecting to Broadway without being in NYC, and of course sharing favorite songs/shows.

What are your non-theater interests? I like to read and create things, whether it’s drawing or embroidery. I watch a lot of TV and Netflix. Currently enjoying the new season of Orange is the New Black and recently finished Daredevil, which was so great.

Favorite contemporary MT song: I enjoy Kerrigan-Lowdermilk songs and “The Bad Years” performed by Jay Armstrong Johnson is one of my favorites. I absolutely love his voice and his delivery of this song:

I also really love “Dear Lucy / Dear Tom” by Drew Gasparini performed by F. Michael Haynie and Emma Hunton. Drew Gasparini’s style combined with Haynie and Hunton’s charm is so great. They are amazing and the song is sweet and funny.
