WRITER SPOTLIGHT: Alexander Sage Oyen

This September, NMT is putting a spotlight on its writers. Each day, we’ll be featuring one writer or writing team’s recommended audition songs and audition tips – and sharing a discount code for their one-day-only Spotlight Sale! Today, it’s Alexander Sage Oyen‘s turn in the spotlight. This past weekend, Alex won the The ASCAP Foundation Lucille and Jack Yellen Award for writing lyrics. Go Alex! And he also wrote a great blog post that you should read.

Favorite audition tip: The people behind the desk aren’t looking for what you think they want to see, they’re looking for YOU. Be as honest and invested in what you’re doing and never water down what you’re doing. I’d rather see someone fail spectacularly than succeed marginally.

Recommended male audition song: WHERE DO THE LONELY SOULS GO?

Especially in an audition context, “Where Do The Lonely Souls Go?” can be funny – but never play for the laughs. This song works best when you’re emotionally invested in the storytelling.

Recommended female audition song: I DON’T WANNA LIE

Rock it out! This is a tune where you can really put your own individual stamp on what’s already there on the page. Do that, no regrets!
