Music by Joseph Zellnik
Lyrics by David Zellnik

This sweet and uplifting ballad was written for the TheatreWorks USA musical First in Flight: The Wright Brothers. In this song, the boys’ mom – knowing she doesn't have much longer to live – bequeaths to her sons her most prized possession: her toolbox… along with some maternal advice. The song is sentimental, but also makes a powerful statement about the act of creation. It has a more thoughtful, quiet beginning followed by some euphoric belting.

Outside of the musical, the song was performed by Julia Murney at the Kennedy Center (as part of ASCAP’s Broadway: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow series), and a recording of the song by Nancy Anderson was released as part of the Hope Sings project to benefit Dramatists Guild Emergency Artist Grants during the Covid-19 pandemic.
