Meet the Bloggers: Aileen Lambert
The Green Room is thrilled to introduce you to our newest bloggers who are joining us this spring. For the rest of the week, you can get to know them through the latest installments of our Meet the Bloggers series.
Name: Aileen Lambert
What do you do outside of blogging? I’m currently a student at a liberal arts college, studying theatre, writing plays, working on a thesis, having dramaturg brunches, praying for summer work, and choreographing a musical… which happens to be American Idiot.
Favorite musical: I am a huge fan of Sunday in the Park With George. I’m not sure why, but the idea of basing an entire story and compositional style off of a painting technique is something I could ruminate over for ages.
What are you interested in blogging about this spring? I spend most of my time at school taking literature and criticism courses, and applying whatever I learn to musicals. I have always been most fascinated by the intersection of musical theatre and experimental theatre theory, because it not only exists, it proves just how dense and exquisite a well-constructed musical is. Brecht and Spring Awakening? Immersive theatre and The Wild Party? Queer studies and Fun Home? There’s a good chance you will find me riffing on any of these ideas in future posts!
What are your non-theater interests? I try really hard to have non-theater interests, but in the end they all just sort of informing either my creative or academic writing. Case in point – I love taking Women’s and Gender Studies courses, which has resulted in me writing a thesis on Fun Home and queer women in musical theatre… no shame. However, I am also notorious for waking up early on the weekend and making my housemates scones, pancakes, or muffins, much to their delight/confusion.
Favorite contemporary MT song: The first time I heard “Expectations of a Man” by Jonathan Reid Gealt, I had to listen to it on repeat to make sure that I was hearing the lyrics correctly. A new musical theatre song about a queer woman? Dream come true! (Also it doesn’t hurt that Bridie Carroll has the most effortless mix belt ever.)
