Meet the Bloggers: Connor Relyea
The Green Room is thrilled to introduce you to our newest bloggers who are joining us this spring. For the rest of the week, you can get to know them through the latest installments of our Meet the Bloggers series.
Name: Connor Relyea
What do you do outside of blogging? I am currently a senior at the University of Missouri majoring in journalism and minoring in theatre performance. When I’m not blogging, I’m either rehearsing for a show or working on homework.
Favorite musical: My favorite musical is A Little Night Music by Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler. The music in this show is gorgeous, and I love the different uses of dance styles that Sondheim weaves through the score. Also, I love the story and how it explores love as a folly of human beings, the battles between sexes and generations and the magic of an endless sunset.
What are you interested in blogging about this spring? I am really interested in exploring the real-life experience of actors, the writer’s process, how a production moves from the page to the stage and performance techniques.
What are your non-theater interests? I am a huge fan of comic books. I used to write comic book reviews for an independent comic book website before I was unable to financially support the habit. I am also really big into gaming, and when I have free time, I will try to catch up on whatever titles I am currently playing. I also enjoy running, Netflix and creating workout playlists.
Favorite NMT song: My favorite song on NMT is “Avalanche” by Kait Kerrigan and Brian Lowdermilk. This song is from their musical Tales From The Bad Years. I was introduced to this song from a YouTube video of Lindsay Mendez performing it at 54 Below. After I saw that video, I bought the music and performed “Avalanche” at the end-of-the-year Gala for the Theatre Department at my university.
