Meet the Bloggers: David Vogel

The Green Room is so excited to introduce you to the newest bloggers who are joining us this summer! For the rest of the week, you can get to know them through the latest installments of Meet the Bloggers series.

Name: David Vogel

What do you do outside of blogging? I am a professional actor. I’m often out of town for jobs, but when I’m in the city, in addition to auditioning, I work as an usher at an off-Broadway theatre and do other odd jobs to pay the bills.

Favorite musical: My favorite musical is A Chorus Line. To me, it’s the perfect marriage of scene, song, and dance. It flows seamlessly from one to the next, without missing a beat, and that’s what a great musical should do. Plus, it never fails to affect me emotionally. I’ll always be in tears by the end of “What I Did for Love.”

What are you interested in blogging about this summer? I’m hoping to blog about the changing face of musical theatre. I have a deep respect for the past of the art form, and love to see how it has changed, and continues to change right before our eyes. Someone is always bringing something different to the table that forces us to alter the way we look at musicals and I find that fascinating.

What are your non-theater interests? I love books. I’m a huge book nerd and I love to read and to talk about books, writing, and all things literary. I also love binge-watching TV on netflix, watching movies, shopping at Trader Joe’s, and enjoying the company of my friends.

Favorite contemporary MT song: I fell in love with Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812 when I saw it, but especially Phillipa Soo’s first song, “No One Else.” It’s just so haunting and beautiful, and whenever I listen to it, I find I can’t get it out of my head for the rest of the day.
