Meet the Bloggers: Michael Wysong
The Green Room is so excited to introduce you to the newest bloggers who are joining us this summer! For the rest of the week, you can get to know them through the latest installments of Meet the Bloggers series.
Name: Michael Wysong
What do you do outside of blogging? I can often be found in my kitchen trying out a new recipe. If I’m not there, then I’m probably at the piano trying to write something new. I spend a lot of time with my writing partner, Brody Horn, writing songs and eating snacks.
Favorite musical: My favorite musical has always been The Music Man. It’s the first musical I remember seeing as a child, and it was the first one I was ever in. I learned quite a bit about musical theatre structure from that show. There was also a time when I knew every line by heart, including “Rock Island.” I would recite it at any given opportunity.
What are you interested in blogging about this summer? Musical theatre history is a passion of mine, so I’m looking forward to writing about current trends in the theatre and how they might fit into the larger context of theatre history.
What are your non-theater interests? As a trombonist, I really love making and listening to music, especially jazz and concert band music. I can’t live without my classic rock, though. I also love to read and am a sucker for any Stephen King book.
Favorite contemporary MT song: Miller and Tysen’s “Town Goes Boom” is one of those songs that keeps popping into my head. I have such an appreciation for the work of Miller and Tysen. It wasn’t until I started listening to their work that I realized how well-written songs can stand alone and tell their own stories. “Town Goes Boom” happens to be a personal favorite of mine.
