Playlist for the Jetsetter
This semester, I have the wonderful opportunity to study abroad in London. It is so exciting to be in a brand new city that has so much to offer, especially in terms of the theatre scene. Another aspect of this semester abroad that I am particularly looking forward to is all the traveling that I will be doing. There are so many new places that I can’t wait to see and explore. While traveling is exhilarating and thrilling, plane rides can be less so. Fear not, wanderlust musical theatre lovers! I have a playlist that will make your flights and layovers a bit more enjoyable.
1. “Watch Me Soar” by Scott Alan
What better way to kick off your flight than a song about taking off? I especially love this version, sung by the incredible Natalie Weiss.
2. “Blue Hair“ by Joe Iconis
There’s nothing like a classic new musical theatre song to make you smile. This is an empowering anthem for all the travelers who need a boost of confidence on their adventures. Who knows? Maybe by the end of your trip, you’ll have dyed your hair blue.
3. “Favorite Places“ by Adam Gwon
Think of this song as a tribute to all of the new favorite places that you will discover on your travels. Listening to this beautiful masterpiece will put you at ease even amidst the turbulence that may be happening around you.
4. “Lost in the Brass“ by Gaby Alter and Tommy Newman
This song is a treasure on NewMusicalTheatre.com and also a personal favorite of mine. It doesn’t matter if you’re stuck in between two screaming babies or if you’re stuck at the airport for a ten-hour layover – no matter what, this song is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
5. “Monticello“ by Pasek and Paul
“Monticello” is the perfect song for those traveling in hopes of a fresh start and an adventure. It’s a classic Pasek and Paul song that will have you hopping on the next plane out.
6. “Run Away With Me” by Kerrigan-Lowdermilk
This is the perfect song to end your flight with. As the plane begins its descent you can start your journey, with a fresh perspective and an excitement for what your adventure has in store for you.
