Recommended male audition song: SONNET 29

Ah, Shakespeare. Make sure you separate the s’s in “that man’s scope” or it will sound like “that manscope.” I don’t even know what a manscope is but I know you shouldn’t be talking about it in this song.

Recommended female audition song: MY LIFELONG LOVE

I think this song is as much about adolescence as it is about music. There is a time when young girls are fearless, and then there is a time when they lose their confidence. I think this song is about losing it and then finding it again in music. Make sure you know who you’re telling the story to, and make up a good reason why.

Favorite audition tip: Make sure you know what every single lyric means. Nothing pulls me out more than when you mispronounce a word and I realize you have no idea what you’re talking about.

I just want you to tell me a story. If you’re terrified, I’m terrified. If you’re having fun, I’m having fun, too. Better that we all have fun.
