Joy Son wrote the music for following full length musicals: The Fisher King (2007 Jerry Harrington Award and 2006 Shelley Pinz Prize from BMI, Inc.); Little Miss Fix-It (2008 CAP 21 workshop, 2012 Roundabout Underground workshop, 2015 Pace Musicals); The United States of Us (2014 American Harmony Prize from Curtain Call, Inc.); Better than Dreaming (2014 IMEA Awards for Outstanding Original Score of a Musical, 2015 Wide Eyes Production Winks reading series, Official Selection of 2015 Santa Fe Musical Theatre Festival); Free Ride. Commissioned by Takarazuka Revue Company, Joy wrote the music for Manon for their 2015-2016 production with an all-female-80-person cast and a 23-piece orchestra in Takarazuka and Tokyo, Japan. Her Korean musical Lovers in Paris received a praised production in Seoul (2012 The Musical Awards Best Score Nom.) and Runway Beat received a developmental production in Seoul, presented by Arts Council Korea (2015). Other short musicals and revues include A Supper at Elsinore, Off-Beat (for Raw Impressions), Hee-Haw, It's a Wonderful Li*e, Everything About a Family (Almost) (for TADA! Youth Theatre) Love, Ben, Love, Emma (for Studio Tisch), Goldilock And Three Bears (for Northeast Children's Theatre Company) and many more. Publication: “Happy” The BMI Workshop Songbook, Vol.1; Joy was also featured as a subject for a popular Korean non- fiction book “Princess La Brava” (Wisdom House). Joy holds a M.F.A. in Musical Theatre Writing (Tisch, NYU), a M.A. in Composition (Steinhardt, NYU) and a B.M. in Composition (Ewha Womans University). She is a proud alumna of BMI Lehman Engel Advanced Musical Workshop.
