5 Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas For Musical Theatre Lovers
If your valentine is a musical theatre fan, here are 5 ideas for the perfect gift this Valentine’s Day.
1. Tickets To A Show
Live theatre can make a fantastic date night! Whether it’s the hottest ticket on Broadway or an upcoming show at a local community theatre, live theatre makes a great gift. Plus, pair it with a romantic meal and you can make it a whole evening! Seeing The Phantom of the Opera or Beauty and the Beast is a perfect excuse to try that trendy new French bistro, or head to your local Italian hole-in-the-wall before catching a performance of The Bridges of Madison County. Dinner and a show is a perfect date night!
2. Hamilton Cast Recording
Much like Eliza Schuyler when she first met Alexander, the cast recording of Hamilton has got me helpless! Hamilton is the most popular and culturally relevant musical since RENT, and its score is very radio-friendly for those that are less into musical theatre. If your valentine already has “Guns and Ships” down by heart, try a more romantically inclined score. My first choices are The Light In The Piazza by Adam Guettel, West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim, or Cinderella by Rodgers and Hammerstein.
3. BC/EFA Jewelry
Jewelry is always a great gift for the women in your life, so why not snag some beautiful jewelry knowing that proceeds are going to a charity close to the hearts of the theatre community? Visit the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS online store to see the jewelry (and other BC/EFA merch!). Check out the charm bracelets and some of the other beautiful jewelry and know that the proceeds are going to a fabulous cause.
4. Food, Glorious Food!
“Honey, what’cha waiting for? Step into my candy store!” While this candy might be something you wouldn’t find at the candy store Heather Chandler sings of, why not try and find some little goody themed to a musical? Some sugar for Mary Poppins and her spoonful of sugar, perhaps? Or some She Loves Me-influenced vanilla ice cream? Or party like Gigi and Gaston and pretend it’s the night they invented champagne? (Okay, some of these are a stretch, but candy is easily the way to the heart!)
5. A Song
Why not serenade your loved one with a song you learned just for them? One of the most romantic songs out there is “Run Away With Me” from The Unauthorized Autobiography of Samantha Brown, and you can get it in both a male and female key! Or why not find something sweet and romantic like “No One Else” from the Broadway-bound Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812? Nothing is more vulnerable than an artist sharing their heart and soul through their art. And if you can’t find the perfect song, try writing a song or a poem. It might not be perfect, but what matters is that it comes from the heart!
