From the album Artists In Residence (Broadway Records)

Music by Joseph Zellnik
Lyrics by David Zellnik

This lush, melodic ballad was written for the album Artists In Residence, a collection of brand-new songs written and performed by members of the theatre community (all from their homes) about aspects of life during the Covid-19 lockdown. When we were considering what sort of song we wanted to write for this project, our thoughts immediately went to the swoony, sentimental type of song written during WW2 designed to give listeners hope that someday the world would return to normal (you know, songs like ‘I’ll Be Seeing You’).

So New York Day harkens back to the Golden Age of American Song… it's a tune that might have been sung back in the 40s or 50s by a young Frank Sinatra, or by a female singer like Dinah Shore or Doris Day. Happily for us, on Artists in Residence, the song has been gorgeously brought to life on the album by Santino Fontana, with a perfect mix of romance and rueful reflection. The tune is available in two different keys, and is suitable for performers of any gender.

Available in:
Key of C (
D2 - E3) (baritone)
Key of A (B2 – C#4) (low mezzo)
